On 17 May 2026, the Communities of Associates in Ruvo di Puglia and Molfetta, together with the Community of Consecrated Women in Ruvo, welcomed the new President of the Servi della Sofferenza Association, Enrico Carnevalini.Together with him and his wife Cristiana, we spent a day of fellowship and brotherhood at the parish of San Giuseppein Molfetta, where Fr Raffaele Gramegna, Vicar of the Association and Community Assistant, carries out his ministry.Also present with us was Fr Vincenzo De Gregorio, Assistant to the Community of Associates in Ruvo.
The day began with a moment of light-heartedness and relaxation, as we played together in a simple, family-like atmosphere. A light aperitif gave us the chance to strike up our initial personal conversations, fostering a spontaneous and relaxed dialogue that continued throughout lunch, which we experienced as an occasion of genuine fellowship.
In the afternoon, we took part in the community gathering, during which Enrico shared with us a particularly meaningful personal testimony. He recounted his journey of faith, his story with Cristiana, his encounter with the Father, his desire for a family, and the choices he has made over time. His account revealed a deep trust in God’s providence, which he perceived as a constant guide in the most important decisions of his life. His calm tone, gentleness and inner clarity conveyed to us all a strong sense of peace and authenticity.
In his address, the President reminded us of the importance of nurturing a sense of community, to be lived out in practical ways, by drawing close to those going through difficult times. He emphasised the value of voluntary work as a means of fostering cohesion and bearing witness, capable of making the beauty of the Servants of Suffering family visible to the outside world. He reminded us that the credibility of our witness stems from simple and consistent actions through which those who observe us can recognise the Associates as a point of reference and an example.
Enrico also invited us to look beyond the boundaries of our local communities, to get to know one another better across communities, and to make the most of the encounters we have had during retreats and shared activities. Every shared experience represents an opportunity for mutual growth and enrichment, helping to strengthen the Association’s journey.
The day drew to a close in an atmosphere of gratitude and serenity. The President’s visit was a precious opportunity for us to renew our commitment to living out our charism with authenticity and responsibility, fuelling our desire to walk together and grow in fraternity.
