THE SECULAR INSTITUTE SERVANTS OF SUFFERING

Scritto il 14/02/2022

The Secular Institute Servants of Suffering was founded by diocesan priest Fr. Pierino Galeone, who, following the model and inspiration of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, wanted to take on for himself and his children the service of suffering as a witness of charity to his brothers and sisters.
For all members, personal suffering, associated with the sufferings of Christ, becomes an instrument of relief and redemption of others.

The Family began to take its first steps with the consecration of the then 17-year-old Giorgina Tocci, Mother Foundress of the Institute, on July 16, 1957.  The Institute includes men and women, clergy and laity, spiritually united in the same Charism.

On Dec. 25, 1993, Archbishop Benigno Papa, Archbishop of Taranto, recognizing the charismatically original and pastorally useful reality of the Servants of Suffering, having obtained the nulla osta from the Holy See, erected it to a Secular Institute of diocesan right.
